Happy Valentine's Day (a bit early)!

A big, "Who Dat" congratulations to the New Orleans Saints for their Super Bowl victory. It's great to see how much the win means to the folks of New Orleans, the State of Louisiana, the gulf coast and Saints fans around the globe. It was a well played game by both teams - fun to watch.

Other than the many mature oak trees, the long-stemmed red rose bush (bloom pictured) is one of my favorite things of our home. Red roses are a great challenge for me to photograph, though it is a fun challenge. Geeze they smell nice.

Each year at least one of the resident squirrels seems to become fixated on something in particular. Sometimes it's an enjoyment of chewing the trim under the eve of the house, or dragging my favorite plastic 2 gallon bucket off the deck (repeatedly and not quietly), or popping the little yellow plastic flower covers off the hummingbird feeder to better drink the sugar water. One year, a furry little friend decided to taste the rose blooms. It didn't seem right to put a picture of the rose eating squirrel on the same page with a rose intended for Valentine's Day. Actually, it wouldn't be all that bad, but I couldn't locate the picture quickly. Squirrel pictures will have to come another day.

Here's Your Sign

Old Hick Sign

As Tolstoy denotes, I saw an external sign and it infected me with a feeling I wanted to experience. Then on to Cicero... the sign preceded a certain event. For me that event translated to the modern act of deliberately parking the car.

We were on our way home from running errands and Bill suggested we stop off and pick up some chicken since it was nearing lunch time. Great! There are several signs in the parking area that mark some parking spots to discourage customers of other nearby businesses from parking there; they read, "Golden Chick Customer Parking Only." On this visit we saw someone had very neatly painted over the G, E, N and C of the top part of just one of the signs so it now reads, "Old Hick Customer Parking Only."

So, naturally, on this day, we chose to show our appreciation of the artful human activity that one man or woman consciously handed on to us.
