The abelia flowers are in abudance and their sweetness floods the air.  I'm no butterfly, and even I don't have to be close to these beautiful bushes to enjoy their incredible fragrance.  This monarch butterfly is one of several monarchs, skippers and swallowtail butterflies that have been frequenting the abelia blooms during the warm fall days.  This particular monarch is easily one of the most perfect specimens to visit.  Not a tear or tatter visible.  He positively relished each flower.  He not only used his proboscis straw to sip, but would push as far as he could go into the trumpet-shaped flowers.

Forgive me if he is really a she.  With queen monarch butterflies I can tell male from female.  On all other butterflies, I haven't a clue. 

I was thinkin' - yes, I know thats scary...  You might find the texture of a butterfly's wing as facinating as I do, so here's a portion of the image at full resolution/closeup view.
