Sleepin' Here!

Toad

"Ask a toad what is beauty? ... a female with two great round eyes coming out of her little head, a large flat mouth, a yellow belly and a brown back."
- Voltaire

His day started off like any other late winter hibernation day.  Snuggled down into the nice calm dirt - napping without interruption.  Maybe the occasional rumble from neaby mammal feet, but nothing of concern.  That all changed later that day.  The plum tree under which Mr. Toad was asleep, had died.  No cause for alarm, that is unless "someone" decides this is a good day to chop down the tree and remove its stump from the ground.  (Just so you know, it wasn't me.  It was the gentleman of the house.)

The stump was removed, the larger wood was cut for fire, and the smaller limbs burned.  Reached over to pick up the last log to stack when the dirt we had put in the hole where the stump once was - moved.  He closed his eyes and wiggled backwards down into the dirt.  He didn't look happy.  So to celebrate, he got to have his picture taken.  The dogs sniffed him.  That didn't help.  I hope he managed to find a cozy spot to continue resting until HE thinks it's time to come out for spring.
