Nature's Yellow Blanket

blanket of yellow flowers

A blanket of 4-nerve daisy flowers in Parker County, Texas. Spring is wonderful. The gentleman who owns the home with this beautiful stand of flowers, notes that his wife won't let him mow them. I'm thinkin' he doesn't really want to mow them down either.

It's kind of funny... Shortly after we moved to our home I started investigating plants that are drought-tolerant and bloom quite a while. One of the plants found is called a 4-nerve daisy.  So I trotted down (figuretively) to our local nursery and bought a few for the flower beds.

When the next spring came, low and behold there were LOTS of them scattered around the yard and in the bar ditch in front of the house.  To this day, Bill kids me about buying wildflowers that we already have.

    Dear Cris,

The daisies are beautiful, but for the first time since moving to Florida, I
have been able to grow "Beautiful Bluebonnets" in my flower bed. They
grew from seeds Cousin Edmond McGee sent me two years ago which he harvested out
of his pasture south of Navasota. They came up thick and attracted a lot of
attention from passers-by. I'm now trying to harvest the seeds before they
burst out of the pods and scatter all over. I want to plant them in my narrow
two foot wide bed again next September in hopes they will multiply.

    Love,

    Betty Roy
  • Cris Koonce  - Yay!
    Betty Roy,
:D That is wonderful. I'm excited to hear about your bluebonnets doing so VERY
well. Cousin Edmond did good. Congratulations and happy seed harvesting. Big
    hug.

Cris, this is my parent's home that they have lived at for about 13 years. My
dad has always loved those wild flowers and many grandchildren pictures have
been taken out amongst them. Thankyou for choosing their home, they worked so
hard to get there and seeing someone enjoy the beauty that they have planted is
    well worth it all.
