"Art is a human activity, consisting in this, that one man consciously, by means of external signs, hands on to others feelings he has worked through, and other people are infected by these feelings and also experience them."
- Leo Tolstoy
"Certain signs precede certain events."

As Tolstoy denotes, I saw an external sign and it infected me with a feeling I wanted to experience. Then on to Cicero... the sign preceded a certain event. For me that event translated to the modern act of deliberately parking the car.
We were on our way home from running errands and Bill suggested we stop off and pick up some chicken since it was nearing lunch time. Great! There are several signs in the parking area that mark some parking spots to discourage customers of other nearby businesses from parking there; they read, "Golden Chick Customer Parking Only." On this visit we saw someone had very neatly painted over the G, E, N and C of the top part of just one of the signs so it now reads, "Old Hick Customer Parking Only."
So, naturally, on this day, we chose to show our appreciation of the artful human activity that one man or woman consciously handed on to us.

There is a big junk metal yard north of the airport in Lubbock. It is surrounded
by a solid white metal fence. It is right near an overpass, so as you drive you
can actually see down in the yard, with various piles of huge metal pieces from
cars, appliances, and everything else. On the fence, it reads, "WE BUY SCRAP
METAL."
On the way back from Amarillo one day, I noticed that someone had painted over
select letters. It now reads, "WE BUY CRAP."
One of my all-time faves!
